I went horse travelling for the first time in 2015, when I rode 1612 kilometres through the Czech Republic. Before I departed I looked for information regarding how to prepare for the journey, how to plan the route and what equipment I needed. If I had found The Horse Travel Handbook before my journey, everything would have been so much easier for me.

Now a book about all these things exists.

The Horse Travel Handbook is a collection of history and experience. Every page is full of information on how to prepare the horse, pack your things and tie them to the saddle. It explains about horseshoes, sleeping in Nature, securing the horse, etc. It also speaks about equine diseases and describes the human difficulties encountered on a journey.

I really appreciate that in the book CuChullaine O’Reilly also mentions the changes that take place within a person. He understands the ethics of equestrian travel and puts the well-being of the horse in the first place.

In today’s society, full of vehicles and modern technologies, equestrian travel is a thing that can change a person.

Na svoji první cestu na koni jsem se vydal v roce 2015, když jsem objel Českou republiku (1612 km). Tenkrát jsem hledal informace jak se připravit na cestu, co s sebou, brašny, vybavení, jak plánovat cestu. Dnes již existuje kniha The Horse Travel Handbook, která poskytuje komplexní návod a detailně popisuje, jak se připravit na jezdeckou cestu, jaké úskalí mohou long ridera na cestě potkat. Pokud bych tuto knihu měl před svou cestou, vše by se mi velmi zjednodušilo.

Tato kníha je sbírka historie a zkušeností, každá strana je plná informací, jak připravit koně, sbalit věci a správně je přidělat k sedlu, podkovy, spaní v přírodě, uvázání koně, pojednává o nemocech a nástrahách, které mohou jezdce na cestě potkat.
 

Moc se mi líbí, že CuChullaine v knize mluví o změně člověka a pochopení etiky, vyzdvihuje do popředí blaho koně.
 

V dnešní uspěchané moderní době, plné automobilů a moderních technologií, je dlouhá cesta na koni věc, která člověka změní. Tato kniha již vešla do historie jako první svého druhu, a mnoho dalších generací bude z této knihy čerpat. Bravo!
