The Long Riders' Guild

The Afghan Cavaliers

In 2005 Louis Meunier of France, and Hadji Shamsuddin of Maimana, set off on a perilous journey across Afghanistan. The book “Les Cavaliers Afghans” describes how the Long Riders avoided being killed or kidnapped during their perilous journey.

Their route took them south from Maimana to the destroyed Buddha at Bamiyan, west through the heart of Afghanistan to the faraway city of Herat. Along their route the equestrian travellers were able to visit the semi-mythic Minaret of Jam. In a special report, Louis provided the Guild with details of the journey.
