The Long Riders' Guild

Argentina to Canada

In the early 1940s Ana Beker heard a lecture given by Aimé Tschiffely, who had himself ridden from Argentina to Washington DC.  What followed was an equestrian journey of Homeric proportions.

With her eyes always on the horizon, Beker began a 27,500 kilometres (17,000 miles) mounted odyssey that took her from Buenos Aires, Argentina to Ottawa, Canada. The journey began in 1952. This map shows her route across South America.

In her book, The Courage to Ride, Beker recounted her many adventures, including how her horses were attacked by condors while travelling through the Andes Mountains. This map shows the second part of Beker’s journey.
