After receiving special permission from King Zahir Shah, American Long Riders Jean and Franc Shor rode through Afghanistan’s Wakhan Corridor, crossed the Pamir Mountains into Pakistan and entered Hunza in 1949.
Considered off-limits for decades, the Shors’ article about riding in this remote part of Afghanistan became a celebrated article in National Geographic magazine
