The Long Riders' Guild

Andi Mills

From the very beginning, when I was first introduced to the Long Riders Guild and its Founders, CuChullaine and Basha O'Reilly, I have been unbelievably impressed with the honesty and integrity of The Long Riders Guild and all that it represents. The Guild has been on the front lines of the equine world globally, monitoring and mentoring equine explorers, debunking myths, addressing the ethical, and sadly, the multitude of unethical people who seek to commercialize and exploit equine exploration in its purest sense, all the while, encouraging those who are on legitimate expeditions.

I have been aware of the occasional attacks they have had to face by unscrupulous and unethical people who, for a variety of reasons, have tried to slander, undermine and destroy The Long Riders Guild. Not only do CuChullaine and Basha assist Long Riders, but they have created the largest historic literary archive of equine exploration in the world. They have published countless books featuring historic Long Riders, preserving these individual rides for the posterity of all equine enthusiasts. They have written many comprehensive books that are invaluable to Long Riders who are planning or engaging in their journey. As I was making my ride, they were such a blessing and offered so many helpful suggestions that kept me safe, and made my ride easier to document with the handbook they sent me.

Upon completing my ride, they only asked one thing of me, and that was that I use my experience to help other Long Riders as they make their own journeys and I have always honored that promise. I have always considered it a tremendous honor to be a Member of The Long Riders Guild. It is, without a doubt, one of the most prestigious honors any equestrian can achieve.

There are no trophies, no belt buckles or awards associated with successfully completing a Long Ride. Invitation to become a Member of the Guild is worth more to a Long Rider than any material recognition could ever be. The Long Riders Guild, CuChullaine and Basha O'Reilly, and my many fellow Long Riders are true treasures in my life and I always have been, am still today, and always will be extremely proud to be a part of The Long Riders Guild and to count CuChullaine and Basha and other Long Riders as my friends and colleagues.
